Dundas Castle Chinese Scottish Wedding | Wedding Photography | Laura + Stuart

a harmonious blend of Chinese and Scottish traditions

Laura and Stuart planned their wedding day with a vision of blending the traditions of two cultures, and keeping the whole celebration as inclusive as possible so that the guests could enjoy the sparkle and grandeur, but with as relaxed an atmosphere as possible to squeeze maximum enjoyment out of the occasion. The usually precarious Scottish weather apparently also relaxed, letting a big, juicy, golden sun pop out and grant us some glorious lighting. And if you’ve ever heard wedding photographer chat - we do indeed like some nice light! :-D

The outstanding setting of Dundas Castle is one of my favourite wedding venues in the East of Scotland. Nestled in the beautiful, quirky locale of South Queensferry, this stunning Scottish Castle sits proudly atop hills overlooking the Firth of Forth and offering stunning views from the top of the Castle Keep. Yet it sits in a lovely secluded standpoint, making you feel perfectly removed form the hustle and bustle of daily life. This amazing vista was one of the reasons Laura and Stuart were attracted to the venue in the first place; clear views for miles in every direction. But that is just one aspect of this lovely venue that makes it a perfect backdrop for a marriage. The warmth of the interior is also one aspect that Laura mentioned, the sense of history, form the Old Keep to the comfortable and decorative corridors and halls. From the perspective of a wedding photographer, the venue offers a plethora of effortlessly useable backdrops that would make the venue a pleasure to shoot in, whatever the weather decided to throw at us. It just so happens on this occasion, glorious weather was also on our side! Oh, and let’s not forget the Llamas. There are Llamas.

It was the culmination of a lot of hard work and uncertainty for Laura and Stuart to navigate their way to this point and officially cement their relationship here. A rocky road of uncertainty through the covid pandemic meant the couple were never quite sure that this grand day would ever happen…but it did…and the world’s a little better because of it :-) The whole day was a beautifully calm affair, with the classic Chinese colour palette of gold and red furnishings, from decorations to good luck symbols to the Chinese tea ceremony, all seamlessly blended with our more familiar Scottish aesthetic. Outfit changes throughout the day and a visit from the couples’ pet dog rounded the experience out perfectly :-D All that was left was to throw some shapes on the dancefloor to complete the experience…and shapes were duly thrown! :-D

Laura and Stuart also chose to have one of my alternative and sought after highlight films to truly capture the essence of their wedding day. Not only are these videos the height of viewing fun to watch after your wedding, they really bring another valuable viewpoint to the day, with movement and atmosphere and emotion all rolled into one funky little package.
