Brig o Doon Wedding, Ayrshire | Wedding Photography | Olivia + Craig

So, I already had an inkling that Olivia and Craig’s wedding was going to be beautifully dynamic affair before they even booked me to photograph and film their wedding. How did I get this inkling? Well, because I’d already witnessed them tearing up the dancefloor at Eve and Shona’s stunning Scottish / Indian, fusion wedding in Aberdeen the previous year! A crowd who can dance tend to really stick in your memory. And let me tell you…these guys can DANCE. I have witnessed a lot of funky, and impressive moves on the dancefloor in my many years as a wedding photographer - flashmobs; freestylers; elaborate routines - but Olivia and Craig’s party had, hands down, the best dance flair I’ve ever witnessed to date. I guess when you’re long-time salsa enthusiasts and instructors, then you kind of have to raise some eyebrows and strut your stuff; let’s face it, if you’re going to dazzle, when is a better time than your own wedding reception? Job well and truly DONE. But of course, when many of your guests are also nifty movers on the dancefloor then the night is going to be an absolute SPECTACLE!. Check out their wedding highlight video for visual proof ;-D

The dancing, obviously is only a small part of the occasion, but the whole day oozed with laid back fun. The couple had chosen the beautifully picturesque location of Brig O Doon wedding venue in Ayrshire, because its historic setting and immaculately cultivated grounds, not only looked amazing, but gave all the guests plenty of space to relax and mingle. Olivia works in Heritage and the mix of natural light and modern amenities really drew them to the venue. The huge indoor ceremony windows and quintessentially Scottish tartan decor also played a leading role. As it happens, we were lucky enough to experience beautiful weather for the whole day meaning that the kids could play freely and guests could enjoy the entire afternoon chatting and soaking up the rays - not always a given luxury in Scotland! ;-D

What makes every wedding unique and personal is the attitude and planning of the couple themselves. For Olivia and Craig, it was foundationally important that the wedding was for the enjoyment of the guests. The date of the wedding was calculated so that all of Olivia’s family could be present at the same time. The couple had been legally married in a civil ceremony in 2024, but they wanted to wait until Olivia’s brother had returned from deployment so that the full blown wedding celebrations could happen with the whole family present. Olivia’s mum even sang at the opening of the wedding ceremony, which was a beautifully poignant touch. I personally also loved seeing the Lei Po’o in place of bouquets - the flower crowns of traditional Hawaiian flowers. Olivia was born in Hawaii and has used traditional Hawaiian flowers in many major life moments. I think the flower girls also very much enjoyed having these boho beauties to wear! :-D

I’ll leave you with some of my favourite visual memories of this incredible wedding, and please feel free to check out their sublime wedding video…though it might just give you dance envy ;-D

Congratulations guys!
