Barony Castle | Wedding Photography | Janine & Dan

Nothing sets the tone for a beautiful marriage like a good omen. And Janine and Dan’s wedding seemed to have a supernatural-level abundance of good omens! :-)

Janine and Dan’s wedding took place at one of the most unique wedding ceremony locations I have come across in Scotland. if you like a slice of nature to accompany you on your wedding journey then you could do a lot worse than check out Barony Castle in Pebbles in the Scottish Borders. Janine had mentioned to me that she chose the venue because of it’s beautiful setting and the ability to have the ceremony itself outdoors in the woods. A tree-lined archway that forms a looooong tunnel down to the stone altar where the ceremony takes place is the centre piece of this enchanting location. I don’t know how long the pathway is, but each time I visit, it seems to get longer. The photographer gets the privilege of doing laps up and down this tunnel, so when it’s one of the hottest days of the year, let me tell you…I shed some SWEAT ;-D The natural vibe of the venue fit perfectly with Janine’s boho stylings, including her floral headdress (more on that later!) and beautifully airy wedding dress which caught the sun light at every available opportunity!

I guess you could technically call their wedding a micro-wedding, in that there were just a handful of guests, but that’s not to say that it lacked anything at all - this day had ALL the wedding essentials, which in my book are simply fun, and a palpable sense of closeness between the guests. It really makes the photographs. There was also a huge sword - whilst not technically essential, it’s always nice to have :-) So, to get back to those omens; the ceremony was a beautiful affair, conducted with panache by Paul (@thescottishweddingcelebrant). At a point during the ceremony when mentioning people who are no longer with us and a wedding guest stood with her palm open…a feather floated down and landed in her hand! I mean, that is pretty hard to top! Though Dan did his level best to beat that, when he went to sign the marriage certificate, tripped, and turned it into a cartwheel ;-D I’ve seen some slick moves in my time, but that was right up there.

The nature-filled omens continued when a strikingly beautiful butterfly landed on Paul the celebrant. After letting it rest for a while, he skilfully transferred it to Janine’s floral crown, where it remained in situ for the entirety of the couple shoot, in which we wandered around the lush grounds having a good time. Pretty amazing I thought! Once the butterfly had had its fill, the remainder of the day was simply a lovely affair of laughter, relaxation and good times. Oh, and a little sunset and confused cow chasing…. :-D

Congratulations guys!
